Cookie Policy

Last updated: 15 May 2026 · Applies to drbansalgastro.com

This page explains exactly what cookies this website uses. The short version: by default we set one essential cookie that simply remembers your cookie choice. No analytics or marketing cookies run unless you actively allow them. You can change your choice at any time.

What cookies are

A cookie is a small text file a website can store in your browser. Cookies can remember a setting (such as your privacy choice), or — in the case of analytics or advertising cookies — help measure or track activity. Similar technologies include local storage. This policy uses "cookies" to mean all of these.

Our approach: privacy by default

We deliberately keep cookies to a minimum. When you first visit, nothing but the essential consent mechanism is active. Analytics and marketing stay switched off until you make a choice in the banner. We use no advertising networks and build no marketing profiles.

1. The one essential cookie

To avoid asking you on every page, we store your choice in a single first-party cookie:

  • Name: dbg_consent
  • Purpose: remembers whether you accepted or rejected analytics/marketing, so the banner does not reappear.
  • Type: first-party, essential / strictly necessary.
  • Lifetime: up to 180 days, after which you are asked again.
  • Data: a small value recording the consent version and your on/off choices — no name, no tracking ID.

Strictly-necessary cookies like this are exempt from prior consent under data-protection guidance, because the site cannot remember your preference without one.

2. Analytics cookies — off by default

Analytics cookies would collect anonymised, aggregated information about how the site is used (for example, which patient-education pages are read most), so the practice can improve them. These run only if you choose "Accept All" or enable Analytics in preferences. They are not active by default and no data is sold.

3. Marketing / media cookies — off by default

We do not run advertising cookies. The only situation where a third-party cookie could appear is if you choose to play an embedded video and the video provider sets one. Videos are loaded in privacy-enhanced mode and only on click (see below). This category is off by default.

Google Consent Mode v2

This site implements Google Consent Mode v2 with all consent signals defaulting to "denied." In practice this means that even if a Google analytics tag were added in future, it would not store or use analytics/advertising identifiers until you actively grant consent through the banner. Your choice updates these signals immediately.

Embedded videos (YouTube)

Educational videos are embedded using youtube-nocookie.com and use a click-to-load "facade": the video player is only requested when you click play. Until then, YouTube does not load and cannot set cookies. This protects both your privacy and page-loading speed.

How to manage or withdraw your choice

  • On this site: use the Manage Cookie Preferences link (also in the footer under "Cookie Preferences"). You can change or withdraw consent at any time.
  • In your browser: all major browsers let you view, block or delete cookies in their settings. Deleting the dbg_consent cookie will simply make the banner appear again on your next visit.

Changes to this policy

If our use of cookies changes, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date. Significant changes that require fresh consent will re-display the banner.
