This page explains exactly what cookies this website uses. The short version: by default we set one essential cookie that simply remembers your cookie choice. No analytics or marketing cookies run unless you actively allow them. You can change your choice at any time.
A cookie is a small text file a website can store in your browser. Cookies can remember a setting (such as your privacy choice), or — in the case of analytics or advertising cookies — help measure or track activity. Similar technologies include local storage. This policy uses "cookies" to mean all of these.
We deliberately keep cookies to a minimum. When you first visit, nothing but the essential consent mechanism is active. Analytics and marketing stay switched off until you make a choice in the banner. We use no advertising networks and build no marketing profiles.
To avoid asking you on every page, we store your choice in a single first-party cookie:
dbg_consentStrictly-necessary cookies like this are exempt from prior consent under data-protection guidance, because the site cannot remember your preference without one.
Analytics cookies would collect anonymised, aggregated information about how the site is used (for example, which patient-education pages are read most), so the practice can improve them. These run only if you choose "Accept All" or enable Analytics in preferences. They are not active by default and no data is sold.
We do not run advertising cookies. The only situation where a third-party cookie could appear is if you choose to play an embedded video and the video provider sets one. Videos are loaded in privacy-enhanced mode and only on click (see below). This category is off by default.
This site implements Google Consent Mode v2 with all consent signals defaulting to "denied." In practice this means that even if a Google analytics tag were added in future, it would not store or use analytics/advertising identifiers until you actively grant consent through the banner. Your choice updates these signals immediately.
Educational videos are embedded using youtube-nocookie.com and use a click-to-load "facade": the video player is only requested when you click play. Until then, YouTube does not load and cannot set cookies. This protects both your privacy and page-loading speed.
dbg_consent cookie will simply make the banner appear again on your next visit. If our use of cookies changes, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date. Significant changes that require fresh consent will re-display the banner.
